Getting Started at IHNUniversity.com is Easy!
- If you have not perused the University Catalog (see link in the left sidebar) yet, you should first look over our list of available courses to see if one or more appeal to you. Currently, all of our classes are online courses (no Instructor-Led courses at this time) so you can click the link entitled Catalog of Available Online Courses to go straight to the available course list, listed by various healthcare categories. Clicking the name/link of a specific course will show you further details about that specific course including cost, overview, objectives and course credit information. NOTE: You can purchase and take any online course for generic/non-CEU credit at any time.
- If you see a course(s) that appeals to you, the next step is to create a login account at IHNUniversity.com. To register, click the Click here to Log-In to the system link in the upper left of the page in the purple bar across the top of the browser window. Click the Register Now button to the right of the page to go through the registration process, or if you already have an account, simply fill in your Login ID and Password in the Log-in Information fields to enter the site.
- VERY IMPORTANT - After creating your account, the next task should be for you to input your current license information prior to registering for a course to ensure you will receive proper credit for your purchased courses. To do this, click My Learning Path (see link in the left sidebar) to go to your own personal 'administration area', where you will find a link to My Licenses to input/update your license information. Please be sure to keep this information current as this is critical to receiving proper credit on your certificate at the completion of your course.
- Once you are logged into the site and you have input your license information, you can again browse the University Catalog to the course(s) that interests you. This time, you will notice that the Course Details page will list specific Course Credit Information which will apply to you specifically, based on your input license(s) information, hence why it is critical to have this information input correctly, prior to registration of a course. NOTE: While most courses offer NAB/State credits for many various license types, it is ultimately your responsibility to verify that your state agency will accept credits for the course(s) you are considering prior to registration.
- If you are confident you would like to proceed with taking the course, simply click the Add to Shopping Cart button at the top of the Course Details page to add the course to your Shopping Cart for purchase. You can continue shopping other courses in the catalog if you like, but if you are ready to check-out, click the Check Out button to provide your credit card information to purchase access to the course. Once you have completed the purchase of your course, you will find the course ready and waiting for you, as well as any other course(s) you have in progress, by clicking the My Learning Path (see link in the left sidebar) to return to your own personal 'administration area', where you will find a link to My Online Courses. Here you will find links to all of the courses you have in progress, but have not yet completed. Simply click the course name and you can begin to take your class. Reminder - the site will keep track of your progress throughout the course and you can stop and start at your leisure, even logging out and returning to the course when the time is more convenient for you! It will track your progress module by module and you can return to previously completed modules/lessons at any time as long as you have not completed the course.
- Once you have completed a course, you will be given the opportunity to print your certificate for CEU credit. If at any time in the future you need to access the certificate again, don’t worry! You can always see the information for the courses you have completed by visiting the My Transcript link within the My Learning Path area to see a transcript of your past course completions. For a specific class, click the View Completion Details link to access a link to reprint your certificate at any time.
- To further address any potential questions you may have, please visit the Frequently Asked Questions or FAQ (see link in the left sidebar) for further assistance. We hope you enjoy your learning experience at IHNUniversity.com!

Dealing with Difficult People
by Clint Maun, CSP
At the completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Develop an understanding of how to deal with different communication approaches
- Implement the concept of “customer” in their daily interactions
- Develop appropriate communication skills to ensure the implementation of 50|50 relationships
- Implement techniques for improved intershift, interdepartmental and interpersonal relationships
- Deliver positive and negative feedback so it is truly useful
- Develop techniques for handling supervisory-employee situations, including how to prepare a workable action plan on “their” difficult individual
- Understand the relationship between the “pleasaholic” and the “BMG”
- Develop the ability to implement a 5-step customer satisfaction process in dealing with difficult customer situations
Have you ever worked with one of those people that made you want to:
- Avoid them?
- Shout at them?
- Terminate them?
- Divorce them?
- Give them up for adoption?
- Complete successful physical damage?
If the answer is “yes” to any of these questions, you need to try another alternative. That alternative is to learn how to deal with them. As hard as that may seem, it is possible.
This course focuses on how to deal with the multitude of potentially difficult situations in day-to-day relationships of a healthcare organization. Today’s healthcare organizations experience many diverse and somewhat complicated human interactions. The participants in this course will learn specific techniques to demonstrate appropriate implementation for handling tough situations.
This course lasts approximately 1 hour and it is designed to prepare the participants with appropriate “how-to” information to develop assertive conflict management skills that can produce a successful interaction for the organization and, at the same time, for the individuals involved. This course will utilize an audio lecture with a good dose of humor, case studies, personal reflection and individual action planning. It will incorporate a 5 question Pre-Test, as well as a 5 question Post-Test Final Exam. CEU credit will require passing the Post-Test Final Exam with at least a 80% (4 out of 5 correct), as well as providing your feedback on a short evaluation form. You will receive a 1-hour CEU credit certificate upon completion.
This course has been approved for the following accreditations for specific licensees (-please verify CEU acceptance with your state association(s) as appropriate).
Check back often as new accreditations/state approvals are being added:
- California - LNHA, Board of Registered Nursing, Board of Behavior Science, RCFE
